Leadership team at York City Church

York City Church has a team of leaders who lead, oversee and care for the church.

Steve Hurd

Steve Hurd is responsible for the leading both the eldership and staff teams. Steve is a gifted evangelist and plays a key role in serving New Frontiers churches in Yorkshire and the North-East. Steve is married to Ruth and they have a daughter Becky. They have lived in York since 1999 when the church was planted. Previously Steve was an elder at Brickhill Baptist Church in Bedford. In his spare time Steve enjoys gardening, sport, reading and going to the cinema.

James Bailey

James Bailey is married to Linda and they have two young children, Grace and Luke. James became an elder in 2006 and carries responsibilities in relation to preaching and teaching, cell groups, publicity and the Foundations Course. James currently balances his church responsibilities with working full-time for the City of York Council. When not working, James enjoys spending time with his family, reading, playing football and following Charlton Athletic football club.



Martin & Clare Hoggart

Martin Hoggart is married to Clare and they have three daughters, Amy, Sarah and Rosie. Martin became an elder in 2006 with James. He carries responsibility for many important practical areas of church life and together with Clare plays a key role in the area of marriage. Martin and Clare run their own businesses in York, one designing and manufacturing garden features, the other building Portable Baptisteries! (www.portablebaptistery.co.uk). When not working, Martin enjoys spending time with his family and friends, quietly supporting Leeds United and walking in the countryside.


Alan Rose

Alan Rose is married to Susanna. They moved to York at the end of 2007 and Alan joined the staff team at the beginning of 2008. His responsibilities include teaching and preaching, discipleship, developing worship, assisting in the office and much more! Before arriving in York Alan was on staff at Church of Christ the King in Brighton and along with Susanna was responsible for leading the 11-14 age-group. Alan also co-led the worship team and was involved in overseeing a number of cell groups. In his spare time Alan enjoys playing golf, playing his guitars, reading, watching movies and football, and listening to music.
